You previously gave an awesome radio, but this would be your first written interview! Could you give a brief history of the We AM project? How did you guys first meet and what inspired you to get into EDM in the first place?
Yes, of course! We're Alex & Manuel. We were both born in 1998 in the beautiful city of Bern, Switzerland. Both of us grew up listening to various styles of music but found out that we had a similar passion for EDM back in 2013. We found that out by spending school breaks together, since we both went to the same school which is also where we've met each other for the first time. After that, one thing came after another and we started producing music. Lots of stuff ahs  happened since then. We got to meet lots of new people, played sick gigs and learned lots of new things within our productions. The story behind our name is actually super simple. It's just the starting letter of our names combined (A&M). We're not gonna lie, this didn't take us long at all to come up with.

We've been loving your latest release on Future House Cloud with QR Alum, Tom & Jame and Bad Nelson! What was the creative process behind this one and what motivated you all to make a future house track?
"Something More" was an idea we actually started back in December of 2018. We experimented with this kind of Hexagon style and our new acquired Splice-subscriptions. (Producers: If you're not using Splice, you're really missing out! Serious creativity booster!) And yes, Steff Da Campo was a big inspiration in the track. After we had the initial idea down, we sent the track around and luckily Tom & Jame and Bad Nelson hopped on the track. When we got the project back from them, we were really surprised with the additional power they had added to the drop. We did the initial idea and the basic sound design but the other three spiced the whole thing up a lot. Since vocals are really hard to come by, we used Splice there as well.

You're also coming back on Fonk Recordings with Notalike for "Do It Again!" What can you tell us about the making of this one?
We started talking about a collab with the guys from Notalike at Amsterdam Dance Event back in October of 2018. We got to meet them through our good friend Boothed, who introduced them to us. After returning from ADE, Notalike hit us up with a sick drop. We started making the break and then Notalike combined the whole thing and "Do It Again" was born. Dannic was on the hunt for new music, so we sent it over to him and he really liked the song.

How do you both chose which label to release your music on?
Since we produce different stuff sometimes, we first try a label which we think fits our music best and then move on to other options if the first one won't work out. Lots of Fonk releases, some TNC and Cell. We're not in a position where we can choose on which label our music should go, it's a hit or miss in 90% of all tracks we do. Cell actually did a really great job at promoting our track with Loax. We were really surprised with the amount of plays it got. We know there was some drama involving Cell but to be honest, it didn't affect us in any way. The people behind Cell treated us fair and they were nice people. We think they know what they are doing.

We recently asked Pessto this, but now we'd like to ask you guys: How would you describe the state of groove as a genre in 2019?
The whole EDM-Scene is constantly moving. That's why we have to adapt. The truth is: Groove as a genre is going downhill. It's not only groove though. Almost all EDM genres are deteriorating. There are some artists that still shine with the same stuff they did in like 2015. We still do groove but we will also slowly move away from the genre as can be heard with our newest release on Future House. Our plans are going in a different direction. We're really thankful for the groove-genre, which gave us a head start in the scene and we will never forget it.
After being in this industry for a few years now, what is your favorite part about it? What are the aspects and moments that keep you making music and playing shows?
Definitely the combination between producing music and playing your own music live and receiving good reactions from the crowd. Also meeting people who actually listen to your music, or know you through your music has got to be one of the best feelings ever. One of the best things we've experienced was actually at a Mike Williams show in Zurich. We were in the crowd when Mike Williams suddenly played our then newly released collaboration with Dannic. And not only were people going nuts, some guys actually recognized us in the crowd and we all raved together to our song!

Looking forward, what can we expect for the future of the We AM project?
As mentioned above, we will be putting out more music in different genres. Our main goal is actually got get more Spotify traction while still producinh music that we love. We had a longer break from music due to school finals. But we're back and more motivated than ever. There's a new one coming on Fonk called "Do It Again" together with Notalike.

Thank you for the questions! Hope you are as excited for new stuff as we are.

Cheers!

Alex & Manuel
