The Imagine Festival Experience

As a part of our Road to Imagine Series, we were able to get an interview with Kennedy Crump, a past attendee of Imagine Festival. She talked with us about her experience and takeaways from her past adventures at Imagine Festival.
What got you into festivals and the scene as a whole?
I have a friend, Abe Abdelnour, who is a DJ that goes by the name of RA. My friends were always going to his shows and I got invites all the time. Eventually, I gave in and went and when I stepped in the venue, I could instantly tell that the vibe from the people there was just different in a good sort of way. It felt like a place where everyone could come be themselves and just enjoy life. I began going to more of his shows where sometimes he would open for DJs like Crywolf and Adventure Club. I couldn’t get enough of this scene, so I decided to go to my first festival, TomorrowWorld 2015. It was such a transformative experience and I have been enjoying the festival scene ever since.

Which sets did you catch at Imagine Festival?
At Imagine Music Festival I saw, Boogie T, Illenium, 12th Planet, Claude Von Stroke, Chris Lake, Flux Pavilion, Seven Lions, Pretty Lights and more. My favorite set was Illenium because I had a really good spot in the crowd for his set and he is also one of my favorite DJs. I had seen Illenium a couple times before but he brought a unique flair to his Imagine set that I feel the crowd really enjoyed. It was the perfect mix of his lyrical, emotion-filled music paired with hard electro drops that kept the crowd’s energy up and on their toes the entire time. I think he really gave it his all for the crowd.

Flux Pavilion was also a memorable set because, when I think back on it, all I can really remember is how crazy the crowd was the entire time in the best possible way. Flux continued to drop banger after banger without letting up. I remember huge balls bouncing on top of the crowd, confetti drops, and amazingly loud sound quality. At the end of his set, everyone looked around at each other like, “Wow. What did we just experience!?” Pretty Lights definitely lived up to their name because they had these lasers which just illuminated the crowd and fit perfectly with their music.

Claude Von Stroke closed out the festival and literally everyone in the entire festival flocked to the Disco Inferno stage for his set. The entire stage was full and people took up most of the racing stands to watch. Earlier that day, there was a Dirtybird takeover at the Disco Inferno stage, so we got to watch countless amazing house artists perform so it was fitting that Claude, the owner of the Dirtybird, should come out and close out the stage for the night with an amazing set.

What were some of the craziest props and costumes that you came across?
One of my favorite costumes was this merman on stilts. His makeup was insanely beautiful and he walked around on those stilts with a majestic effortlessness. Another notable thing were the fire twirlers at the Disco Inferno stage which were really enjoyable to watch.
What tips do you have for other festival goers?
A small thing that first-time festival goers might not think about is crowd etiquette. Examples include simply saying excuse me when pushing through the crowd and just being aware of those around you in general. At festivals, it’s important to take care of each other, so if you see someone who doesn’t look okay or have a friend who isn’t feeling well, take them out of the crowd and get them some water. It’s important to look out for one another.
