What inspired you to get into music composition and production?
I would say. Kaytranada, he is the bomb! I have many other inspirations but he is really someone I look up to. You've had an astronomical rise as one of the pioneers of boom bap lofi period on Soundcloud which saw your tracks get picked up by the likes of Casey Neistat and other prominent YouTubers. Can you explain why you think this style of music resonates with so many people? I feel like it resonates with a lot of people because there's a lot of content creators on YouTube who want to tell a story through their videos and to their audience. And our music really helps them get their final product, whether it's sad or happy or just a casual video. Our songs tell better stories than your favourite novel. How do you feel about the current state of Lofi / Hip-hop with the plethora of YouTube livestreams, Spotify playlists, and even AI generated music? I've come to discover a lot of raw new talent everywhere just because of live streams. I would be just listening to a live stream on my way home and discover at least 15 new artists that I vibe with in an afternoon. I also discovered a lot of my favourite music channels from live streams, for example Chillhop Music, Chilled Cow, Majestic Casual and let's not forget Czech Vibes Sound! Can you walk us through the creation of your latest single with Caleb Awiti? It wasn't much hassle and I'll tell you why in a bit. Caleb is my close friend and when he released his latest album named "Love Letters" I knew who to hit up. First I sent him this simple beat that I felt needed a great vocalist, he then killed it within 4-6 hours after I sent him the beat. After that I edited what needed to be fixed and then boom we got a final masterpiece. How would you describe the track to someone who has never heard it? I would describe it as something you can play to your crush/lover to show her how much you appreciate and care for her. Which other vocalists are you looking forward to working with in the future? It's top secret right now, all I can tell is that it's going to be a single next month, featuring another amazing musician! How can other artists stand out, as you have, to ensure their music is truly appreciated when it comes to playlisting or livestreams? I would say learn as much as you can about marketing in this day and age and get really good people behind you. Because you are never a one man team. We have the privilege to live in the age of the online world and still it's been the greatest tool for me to spread my music and the message. Content quality over quantity. Where do you see your music project heading in the future? What sort of goals have you set for yourself for 2020 and beyond? My main goal is to just be the best I can be. Learn new things about music and connect with people who vibe with what I make. It has always been my priority. FOLLOW JEFF KAALESPOTIFY INSTAGRAM SOUNDCLOUD FACEBOOK YOUTUBEChris W.
