The Beamish Brothers, formerly "The Beamish Boys" are an Australian duo, consisting of multitalented siblings Jeremy and Ben. After an explosive year in 2018, filled with countless career milestones such as amassing over 4 million Spotify streams across all songs and signing tracks with imprint labels of Sony, Universal and Warner Music, the boys are punching back into 2019 with a new name.
How long have you both been performing together?
Jeremy: We've been performing together at family events and low key stuff for several years, but only been doing it full time for the last few years.

Ben: Just a few years professionally, it's been awesome to see how just recently things have started to take off.
What made you both choose this path?
Jeremy: I started off as a singer. It's been such a massive passion of mine since I was a kid. But when I discovered songwriting in high school, something inside me clicked and I knew that this was what I wanted to do.

Ben: I started playing guitar at a pretty young age and from there fell in love with music. I've always loved creating stuff and songwriting for me is one of the most liberating and unique forms of creation that I know. I absolutely love it.

How has your music changed over time?
Jeremy: Like a lot of songwriters, we started off just experimenting with musical ideas and genres and seeing what worked for us. In our case that was everything from piano ballads to tropical house. But out of all that, we ended up finding our home somewhere in the realm of alternative pop which is working really well for us!

Ben: I think we started off both knowing that we loved songwriting, but not having a clear idea of what our artist identity was. So we pretty much tried to do everything. Our first EP was quite eclectic. Then in 2018 we worked with some amazing producers in the Electronic and Chill House world, which was an awesome opportunity but again, we still didn't know who we were as artists. The biggest difference this year is that we're moving away from the electronic scene into an area that we feel encapsulates us and our new direction!

Recently, you changed your name from The Beamish Boys to The Beamish Brothers? Why the change?
Jeremy: It's something Ben and I had been talking about for ages! We'd been through so many different versions of ourselves as The Beamish Boys. We really had a strong gut feeling that it was time to try something new.

Ben: The name change is a pretty small difference, but represents a larger change in our musical direction. We're refining our musical style, so why not cement it with a new name that signifies that development?
So have you changed your style completely?
Jeremy: Definitely not. I think people will hear "us" in our new music clearer than ever

Ben: We're still us. We're just a lot more certain now about who "us" is.

What do you do when you're not in the studio making music?
Ben: Go out for coffee, spend time with friends, chill out and a lot of the time think about ideas for new songs.

Jeremy: What Ben said.
Who are your favourite artists at the moment?
Jeremy: At the moment, I'm seriously loving Bruno Major, Tori Kelly, Alec Benjamin, H.E.R. and Alessia Cara.

Ben: Dylan Joel, Dean Lewis, JP Saxe and Noah Kahan are up there for me!

Best concert / event you've performed at and why?
Jeremy: We co-headlined a show at The Milk Factory in Brisbane last year which was such a dream! It was awesome to see so many people crammed into that room grooving along with our music.

Ben: The National Folk Festival in 2018 was seriously fun. We got to perform in front of thousands, meet some incredible people and watch some amazing performances!

Any news we should know about? What are your upcoming plans for the rest of the year and what can we expect to see?
Jeremy: New music and travel are the two big ones for us on the horizon.

Ben: We can't say too much yet but can announce a new single coming out on the 15th of this month. We worked on it with a producer called Mark Mendy but have had the song idea in our heads for a while! We also have some other great tunes in the pipeline that we're excited to share as well!
