Tell us about your musical backstory.
I didn't really have any musical background before I started producing. I came across EDM when I was listening to the TV and these tracks just started playing gave me all sorts of feels. I knew in that moment, that if I ever made any music, these would be the kind of songs I'd make. I was heavily inspired to start producing by Avicii, Swedish House Mafia, David Guetta and Martin Garrix. Their music was just so amazing that I just had to try and make something like that on my own. I learned that there was a little program called FL Studio that allowed you to write your musical ideas in the fastest way possible so I started working countless hours on learning music theory, developing my ears, and using trial and error methods to get better and producing. Your music is certainly on the more bright and happy side of EDM, why do you think you gravitate towards making that sort of music? I tried to never focus on a certain style when I started out making music. For me, it’s always been about creating music that gives me the best feelings in whatever form they come in. What about the music makes you so passionate about it? It would definitely have to be those amazing feelings that a great song can give you; they lift you up! I also get so inspired from all the great feedback and response I get on my tracks, knowing that so many people support my music makes me feel very motivated to continue doing this. Is there any difference between releasing under MARIN and Marin Moxha? I used to go under alias MARIN just until one year ago when I decided to change that to my real name, Marin Hoxha. It is more special and personal to use my own name and I think it helps me stand out a bit as an individual. You’ve worked with CRYJAXX on quite a few tracks, are y’all friends in real life as well? Yes, Cryjaxx is a duo comprised of Mario and Serafin, both of whom happen to be my very good friends in real life. Music brought us together and now we always hang out, go for walks, go out drinking, and discuss a lot of fun stuff about music; really love hanging with them. Besides that, we are really good partners by supporting and helping each other grow in this industry. Do you do a lot of ghost production as well? I tried to get into it because I saw ghost production as a short term option to earn money from music, but I never got a chance to ghost produce a song. I might look into it in the future but for now I’m just going to keep doing me. What all do you have down the pipeline? I have so many track in progress and I’m trying to finish them as soon as possible. I’ve been working with so much producers and singers these past few months and I just can't wait to release these songs. What features are you looking forward to in FL Studio 20? I've no complaints about the current version of FL Studio. So far I’ve been very pleased with it because it’s been a great tool for me personally to bring to life to even my craziest ideas. As for FL 20, I don't expect much to be changed other than maybe the UI or how the program looks. What are you studying in school? I am currently a third year in university where I study for geodesic engineering. It really has no relationship to my music to be honest. I started college when I really didn’t think I could actually make a living from music, but seeing how it’s been going lately, I really think I can make this music thing a career if I work hard. So that is going to be my primary goal for now. What else are you passionate about? I love playing football but I haven’t been able to do much of that lately even though it’s really a huge thing for me. I also really like to paint here and there in my free time. What has been the proudest moment of your journey this far? There’s so many things! If I had to list them out, I would say being released on my favourite labels: Frequency, AirwaveMusic, and UXN, getting 1 million plays of one of my remixes, and getting featured on Trap Nation's YouTube channel. My main focus for now is to turn my music into a career; my biggest dream is to play in big festivals and rock the crowds with my music! Big thanks to Marin Hoxha for answering our questions!
