Deep Tropics 2019 Recap

Deep Tropics has to be the best home grown and intimate festival in the southeast. Highlighting local and international talent, the festival brings the heat all the through the evening and will have you dancing the night away. From Atlanta-based producer and DJ, Zen Selekta to international superstar Lane 8, there is something for everyone nestled in Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park. The park was the perfect setting. Being immersed in trees and foliage, you feel as though you've entered a tropical paradise (or as best you can in the middle of a city) to melt your worries away for two evenings.

Wandering around the festival, you have wonderful vendors from around the area providing art, knowledge, food, and goats, yes, GOATS! From the stage to the musical lineup, the festival has surely stepped up it's game. Going from mainstage at the Prefect Plant Amphitheater to the Waveclub Sound Stage at the back of the festival, you will find the Tranquil Temple nestled in a large field. There you will find silent discos and yoga classes throughout the day and then at night, it provides the perfect escape from mainstage. Walk even further and the sounds from mainstage will fade and slowly, the bass will emerge from a small stage located In a wooded area. The Waveclub Stage allowed for an amazing atmosphere with lasers peeking through the leaves and bass booming all night long. You can get lost in this oasis.
The production and quality of art and sound throughout the festival was breathtaking and wonderful! The mainstage had a sound system that allowed Troyboi's bass to hit just right and Walker & Royce to bring a heated house set unlike any other that weekend! For sixty-dollar General Admission tickets, this festival is truly spectacular!
The highlights of the weekend were Bonobo's closing set Saturday night and the environmentally friendly atmosphere. It was clear that there was an effort to create the least amount of waste possible. Compost bins and recycling were the only means of waste disposal, also the use of reusable cups with drinks tokens was a keen idea!

Overall, Deep Tropics has to be one of the best kept secrets in the southeast. If you didn't make it out this year, it's certainly worth checking out next year when they come back for their third installment!
