This marks the fifth and most approachable release from Christopher Lao’s new artist project, Pastland, which was created to celebrate the golden era of festival music, similar to Tomorrowland from 2014 to 2020, while delivering modern production quality and timeless melodic writing.
The idea to revisit this 80s classic began in 2018, evolving through multiple versions before reaching the polished rendition heard today. Infused with shimmering disco nostalgia and refined through years of production expertise, the track reflects Declain’s matured sound and SONJA’s captivating vocal delivery, blending familiarity with a fresh, contemporary edge. Declain’s deep affinity for this style of music has been clear throughout his career, with highlights including his biggest release to date, “Tainted Love” with Jex (who is coming hot off her huge collab with Martin Garrix, "Told You So"), which has surpassed 6 million Spotify streams, been featured on Blasterjaxx’s Maxximize Records, and racked up over 1.5 million TikTok views. This release also continues the long-running collaboration between Declain and SONJA. Their partnership began with the 2019 breakout single “Break the Silence” on Chris’ former label Loca Recordings, followed by acclaimed covers such as “Into the Groove.” It reached a high point with “Holding Out for a Hero” on Chris’ own Intensity Recordings, released shortly before Declain’s soft retirement in June 2025.
