Zero Cool Gets Fonk-Y with ALEJANDRO

While the once prominent Spinnin' sublabel, Fonk Recordings, was making waves with their uniquely groovy and energetic sounds, they've become a shell of their former self. With plays decreasing and releases less frequent, it seems that time may claim another soon enough. Meanwhile, Zero Cool continues to push out new and worthy talents, the latest of which is ALEJANDRO from the United States. 

Everything about "Farra" screams FONK, but somehow it feels right at home at MOTi's sublabel. While the percussive sounds aren't wholly unique, they're still well-executed and fitting over ALEJANDRO's signature kick and bass. It's more of a continuation of the one of the sounds he's been cultivating since "J'Adore" on the one-release label, Valdivia Records. 
The arrangement and sound choice in the breakdown is equally fitting and maintains the momentum of the track throughout its duration. As a whole, the track is a wonderful throwback to the golden era of energetic dance with a 2020 coat of paint.

For comparison, you look at the Fonk release on the same day and you'll see perhaps a ray of hope as Shake Coconut has been working in the Fonk style for some years. To see them promoted up to a major label at least reaffirms that the imprint is seeing out new talents. The track itself is rather forgettable with its overused sample pack vocal and STMPD influence. 

If nothing else, ZERO COOL is hands-down putting in the work and opening doors for worthwhile producers to release their unique tracks. While some of them are certainly duds, "Farra" is not.
